Chair Garden

9/12/2017

As summer winds down, I digress from fabric and look to the garden for inspiration.  I'm planting chairs these days.  What grows in your garden?

Sweet sweet summer is slowly slipping away … and will end with the annual ferry over to Ocracoke Island … but I'll take a look back before welcoming autumn.

Armchair Art

Some of you inquired about this photo from the previous post, spotted in the "EATALY" pavilion at EXPO MILAN 2015.  So I imagine pasta inspired this "ARMCHAIR IN LOW PRESSURE HEAT EXTRUDED MULTICOLOR POLYURETHANE".  I am most curious about the two windows that seem to be eyes that personify this spaghetti monster.  The title of the work by Gaetano Pesce "SENZAFINE UNICA" translates "ENDLESS ONLY".

Chairs & Trees

For my friends who love furniture and upcycling, here is the ultimate:  "Found Chairs and Trees" by artist Tom Shields (American born 1970 and lives in Penland).  Weekend weather was amenable to hiking and what a nice discovery on the trails at the North Carolina Museum of Art.  This exhibition takes the chair back to its roots by grafting chairs to trees.  Over time, the chair will decay, completing a natural cycle.

Upcycle linen remnants for the perfect gift wrap.  Just add string and some ivey from the garden.  Then reuse again and again.  Next this quilted linen will be a natural tree skirt.

More Fun With Raffit Ribbon

I've always loved brown paper packages tied up with string and there's nothing like ribbon for dressing up a pretty package.   Grosgrain has been my favorite ever since I was a little girl, and I still remember the navy corduroy jumper that I entered in a State Fair competition.  I stitched a rainbow of ribbons in a criss crossy pattern all over the front and pockets.  It's been raining ribbons around here ever since.  Now I choose the very best from Raffit Ribbons in New York.  Ribbons are super for adding vertical line and color to slipcovers! A good day becomes a great day when a friend stops by with a bucket of homegrown freshcuts.

And when Fedex delivers Irish Linen.  From Ireland.  Which I'll be stocking in white.

And when the find is found.
